The anchorages on Baska Voda:

Overview

This popular resort sits at the base of the Biokovo mountains, 10km NW of Makarska, in the beautiful surroundings of the national park. It has got everything you need for a great visit – stunning surroundings, great beaches, perfect water, and a wealth of highly-rated bars and restaurants serving mouth-watering local delicacies and freshly-caught seafood. Small enough to get around on foot, let this picturesque village cast its magical spell on you.

Navigation

From a distance, it can be difficult to determine which village is Baska Voda. However, once you get closer, the light structure at the end of the breakwater helps to identify it. The approach to the harbour is free of hazards, although there are two offshore cables at somewhat shallow depths.

Where to Anchor

There are berths along the quay, or at the marina. The harbour provides good shelter from W, N, and E winds. However, strong winds from the south create heavy swells, and the bora can blow fiercely here.

General Information

Both the quay and the marina can supply electricity and water. On the quay, you will find toilets and showers. There are plenty of places to stock up on provisions – and do not miss a trip to the colourful fruit and vegetable market which is held daily.

The beach is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Visitors/travellers can also soak up the glorious sun and get a beautiful tan.

Banks, ATMs, and a post office are all available. There is a medical centre and a pharmacy. Plenty of tourist facilities: information centre, restaurants, bars, etc as well as car/bike hire and a dive centre.

History and Culture

The origins of Baska Voda date back to pre-Greek and Roman times, attested to by numerous discoveries of archeological treasures nearby. It first appeared on a map in 1688, as a centre for agriculture and fishing.

Interesting fact: the village and surrounding areas feature as a fictional race track in the video game Gran Tourismo Sport.

A little further along, in a small natural bay surrounded by red rocks, is Baska Voda’s nudist beach.
