What yacht charter are you looking for?

Croatia Luxury Sailing Charter

In Croatia, we now see sailing yachts like Gulets, Motorsailers, and Sailing Catamarans rival motor yachts in luxury, featuring Jacuzzis, spacious accommodations, and large selections of water toys. A major perk is that sailboats are fuel-efficient, offering a cheaper and more sustainable experience.

Charter prices start at €15,000 per week for a budget, family-friendly Croatia gulet charter, but we recommend a budget of at least €50,000 for a high-end sailing charter experience. With Croatia’s beautiful coastlines and close island distances, Croatia is a perfect destination for an unforgettable sailing adventure.

Sailing Yacht Types

Gulets

A Gulet Charter is the most authentic way to cruise Croatia. With a higher cabin count, it is ideal for large groups. It combines luxury with traditional charm and is an affordable way to enjoy a private charter.

Croatian Luxury Motorsailer Scorpios from Tremontana Yachts

Motorsailers

Croatia is unique for having a big fleet of luxury motorsailers typically owned by the captain. This is a great choice for those who want the luxury of a motor yacht with the thrill of a big rig and less spend on fuel!

Sailing Catamarans

A crewed sailing catamaran has many advantages: Great stability, shallow draft, more space, fuel efficiency, and great value for money! They usually have 4-5 cabins for 8-10 guests and are perfect for groups and families.

5 Things You Should Know Before Booking Your Croatia Sailing Yacht Charter

  • These days, sailing yachts do not necessarily mean a compromise on luxury; on the contrary, many larger sailing yachts now have onboard luxury amenities quite comparable to motor yachts, including everything from Jacuzzis to major wellness centers. In Croatia, luxury motorsailers are the way to go for a luxury sailing adventure.
  • One thing you do have to consider is the lower speed of a sailing yacht. While motorsailers can achieve a cruising speed of 15-20 knots, purely wind-powered sailboats usually cruise at 8-12 knots; the same goes for most sailing catamarans. We therefore recommend motorsailers for those who have ambitious itineraries – say, Split to Dubrovnik, a cruise of over 100 nautical miles.
  • Apart from the great fun that it is to be moving by the sheer power of the wind, a huge advantage of opting for a sailing yacht is reduced fuel consumption, which significantly impacts your overall charter price! – Save money on fuel and spend it on luxury.
  • The most popular itinerary is Split to Split, which includes iconic destinations like Hvar, Vis, and Mljet. In high season, this means crowds, and getting a spot on the dock in Hvar is very unlikely. Alternative and less crowded itineraries start out of Sibenik, Zadar, or even Pula in the very North.
  • To organize your personalized sailing yacht charter in Croatia, contact us, and we will assign a dedicated charter expert to assist you. Why should you have a charter broker represent you? Because it does not cost you any extra, we get our commission exclusively from the yachts, and it guarantees you get the best deal. Booking a yacht without a broker is a nightmare, as you have no guarantee that the yacht is what is advertised.

FAQ

Where Should I Begin My Croatia Sailing Charter?

The one-week crewed charter in Croatia usually starts from Trogir and ends at your desired destination. Marina Trogir provides modern facilities such as vessel lifting and lowering. The hundred meters canal is sufficient for docking large motor yachts and sails. The desired itinerary for guests could also include the Kornati archipelago, full of national parks, ancient cities, and lush vineyards along the Adriatic coastline. If the guests want to cover the Kornati archipelago, the voyage begins from Split. Split ACI Marina is great for docking and anchoring boats of all sizes. Split is a great starting point for yachting enthusiasts operating their boats on their own. There are no narrow coves, and the marina staff is always helpful during docking.

When is the Best Time for a Croatia Sailing Charter?

April ( temperature of 22-28 C) to June ( temperature of 26 – 30 C) and September and October are the best times to visit Croatia. October is a bit chilly, but it has happened a lot of times when our clients preferred this month to avoid the crowds and enjoy the serene Croatian coastline. Also, September and October months have occasional rain and stronger winds at times. However, June to September are months when the visitors get to experience the local culture and festivals the most.

How Much Does a Croatia Luxury Sailing Charter Cost?

For a 1-week luxury yacht charter in Croatia, we typically tell clients to spend at least €50,000 if they want a truly high-end experience. Here is an example price breakdown of a luxury motor yacht like Stella Maris, a 124-foot luxury gulet with 8 cabins for 16 guests.

CALCULATION:
Base Charter Fee + VAT of 13% + APA of 30% (of the base fee)

EXAMPLE YACHT: Stella Maris

  • Base Price: €45,000
  • VAT / Croatian Charter Tax (13%): €5,850
  • Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA – 30%): €13,500
  • Crew Gratuity (15%): Included in the APA

Total Estimated Cost: €64,350 for a week.

This covers everything involved in your charter: Food, drinks, fuel (usually 3-4 hours per day), crew services, and use of water toys.

What Are the Mooring Conditions in Croatia?

To have access to land electricity, fresh water refill, and other facilities, we often prefer docking to a port or marina, which usually costs 80-200 euros per night. But if our clients want to anchor in the open sea, we carry abundant supplies for that as well. Mooring on buoys is a slightly cheaper option than berthing at the piers. You can also anchor to beautiful spots without paying a dime. If you are coming with your own yacht or renting a bareboat charter, ensure a skipper is on board with the license for anchoring and mooring in varying conditions.

Will I Get Seasick on a Sailing Yacht in Croatia?

First of all, we have many previous clients who were first-time charterers who were totally fine on their sailing charter in Croatia. But, seasickness can occur on a monohull sailboat, especially in choppy waters. Croatia’s Adriatic Sea is generally calm, with mild weather and gentle waves, especially in summer, so seasickness may be less of an issue.

However, monohulls tend to rock side-to-side more than catamarans, which have two hulls for added stability and less motion. For those really prone to seasickness, a catamaran could be a smoother choice, though conditions in Croatia are generally favorable for both vessel types.

Croatia Yacht Charter Itineraries

There are three regions along the Croatian Coast: north, central, and south. It is realistic to charter in one of these regions during a 1-week charter without the distances becoming too far.

That is why we have written the Top 3 Croatia Yacht Charter Ultimate Guide. In this, we map out the best itinerary for each region, including MUST-VISIT destinations like Hvar, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rab, and the Mljet and Kornati National Park.

The southern dalmatian coast itinerary is by far the most popular as it includes the most hyped destinations like Split, Hvar, and old town Dubrovnik.

OUR FAVORITE SPOTS

Croatia is known as “The Land of 1000 Islands” and has over one thousand islands, of which only about 50 are inhabited. Previous clients have referred to it as “a paradise of unspoiled landscapes” due to its pristine beaches and anchorages, picturesque coves, and crystal-clear waters.

In addition to the Dalmatian islands, the Dalmatian coast on the Croatian mainland offers some of the locations featured in the popular “Game of Thrones” TV show and the James Bond movies, as well as UNESCO World Heritage sites and world-famous scuba diving and snorkeling spots.

Some of the most popular destinations include Blue Cave (on Biševo Island), the Kornati Islands (with a variety of marine life, including dolphins, sea turtles, and colorful fish), and Velebit Channel, which is popular among experienced divers due to its strong currents and abundance of marine life.

Telascica Nature Park

Kornati National Park

The Kornati archipelago is a must-visit destination for Croatia yacht charters. With numerous secluded bays, crystal-clear waters, and untouched nature, the Kornati Islands offer a unique sailing experience. Many of the islands are uninhabited, providing a pristine and peaceful environment.

Pakleni Islands

Located near the island of Hvar, the Pakleni Islands are a stunning archipelago with hidden coves and beautiful beaches. Sailing around these islands allows you to discover secluded spots for swimming and relaxation. If you are visiting Croatia, add this to your list!

Mljet National Park

This park, situated on the island of Mljet, is known for its two interconnected saltwater lakes. Charter yachts can anchor in the sheltered Pomena Bay and explore the park, including the tranquil lakes and the small island of St. Mary with its Benedictine monastery.

Louis was great from beginning to end and walked me through the whole process. He helped me find a great boat that fit within our time and cost preferences. He explained the differences between the different builds and the pros and cons. Once we selected the boat, he explained and walked me through the whole booking process and answered all my questions. Finally, he checked in with me before, during, and after the charter to make sure everything met our expectations. I can’t recommend Louis enough if you are planning a charter, and I will definitely be in touch for our next trip!
