How to Get to Your Croatia Yacht Charter: Airports, Marinas and Boarding Day

Pick the airport that matches your boarding marina, not the one nearest the town you most want to see. Croatia has 4 charter gateways: Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar and Pula.

Every airport and marina in one table

Drive times are clear-road figures. Allow more on a July afternoon, and more again for the run into Split city.

Split airport: 4 charter bases within 35 minutes

Split airport is not in Split. It sits at Kaštel Štafilić, 6 km from Trogir and 24 km short of the city, so it is inside the marina cluster rather than beyond it.

Only the ACI Split run meets traffic, going east through Solin into the city. The other 3 bases are a quarter of an hour away.

Flights: a year-round European core that swells from May to October. United flies Newark to Split 3 times a week in the summer season.

Choose Split for Brač, Hvar, Vis and Korčula, and whenever flight choice matters most.

Dubrovnik airport: 35 to 45 minutes to Komolac

ACI Marina Dubrovnik is not in Dubrovnik. It sits at Komolac, 6 km up the Rijeka Dubrovačka inlet north of the old city, and the airport is south of it.

The drive skirts the old town but not the traffic. It runs above the walls and through the Gruž port corridor, which is the same congestion a Gruž boarding meets.

Komolac is usually where a one-way ends, not where a week starts. A handful of crewed yachts do publish a Dubrovnik berth, so ask us which applies to your yacht.

Flights: the same shape as Split. United flies Newark to Dubrovnik in summer, and Air Canada flies Montreal to Dubrovnik from 11 May 2027.

Choose Dubrovnik for the Elafiti islands, Mljet, and any week finishing in the city. Our Split or Dubrovnik guide goes through the choice properly.

Zadar airport: 20 minutes to Sukošan, and summer-heavy

Zadar airport is inland at Zemunik, 8 km southeast of the city, and the drive to Sukošan does not pass through Zadar.

Marina Dalmacija is the largest marina on the coast. Zadar suits the Kornati national park, Dugi Otok and the northern islands.

It is the most seasonal of the 3 Dalmatian airports, because the low-cost carriers that dominate it run it as a summer base. Out of season, fly Zagreb or fly Split and drive 158 km north.

A few crewed yachts publish a Zadar berth, so ask before you rule it out. We also use Zadar on a Split week when it holds the better flight.

Pula airport: the only sensible way into Istria

Istria is a separate charter region, not a northern extension of Dalmatia. Pula is 520 km and about 5 hours by road from the Split marinas.

So an Istria charter flies into Pula and out of Pula. ACI Marina Pula sits on the city Riva and Marina Veruda is 4 km south.

Almost everything is a summer schedule, with Zagreb the only reliable link out of season. Transavia flies Amsterdam to Pula from 2 June 2027.

The last mile: your broker books the car

Taxis and airport buses do not work for a charter party. A group of 6 with hard cases does not fit one sedan, and the bus goes to a bus station, not to a berth.

Send us your flight numbers and a driver meets the flight. The transfer is a separate cost, not part of the charter fee, and we confirm the figure before anything is booked.

Fares checked September 2026, as an order of magnitude: about 40 euro from Split airport to ACI Trogir or Baotić, 45 euro to Kaštela, 62 euro to ACI Split, and from 50 euro for Dubrovnik airport to Komolac.

Boarding day: land before early afternoon

Boarding is normally around 5pm, which gets you aboard with time to unpack and swim before dinner. Some yachts set a different hour, and a few turn over on Sunday.

A late landing costs you the first night. Crews will normally take a late boarding when they have the flight number in advance, but you arrive in the dark and the first dinner is gone. If the only workable flight lands after about 9pm, fly in a day early.

There is no year-round nonstop from North America. The normal routing connects through Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, London or Istanbul, and an overnight eastbound flight lands around midday.

Coming a day early? Stay in Split, not Trogir. Split city center to Trogir is 27 km, 30 minutes on a clear road.

Departure day: off by 9am, no flight before late morning

You are off the yacht in the morning, normally by 9am, and a marina is not a place to wait out a long afternoon.

Split airport asks departing passengers for 90 minutes inside the terminal in summer. A 9am disembarkation at Kaštela supports an 11:30am flight comfortably, and anything earlier only with a rushed morning.

Allow 15 to 20 minutes from the Split cluster marinas and 35 to 45 minutes from Komolac.

One-way charters: in at one airport, out at the other

Split in, Dubrovnik out is the one-way we are asked for most. Land at Split, board at Trogir, Kaštela or Split, cruise south, fly home from Dubrovnik.

Operators charge a repositioning fee for the empty return leg, commonly 800 to 1,500 euro each way on the yachts we place and up to 3,000 on the largest. Some waive it when the next week starts from Dubrovnik. Our one-way fee article explains it.
