Why 9/10 Charters Choose the Split Yacht Charter Itinerary?

We are seeing a clear preference for the Split-Split or Split-Dubrovnik Yacht Charter Itinerary, with more than 90% of our luxury yacht charters happening in this southern part.

Why? because this is where the most iconic historical destinations are located, such as Split, Hvar, Vis, and Dubrovnik. People coming to Croatia for the first time want to go to see these most famous places, and rightly so. These are some of the most beautiful spots, and the best way to see them is when arriving by sea.

I Want to See Both Dubrovnik and the Kornati National Park. Can I Mix 2 Itineraries?

The distance between Dubrovnik and the Kornati is at least 150 nautical miles, and with a yacht doing 10 knots, this is 15 hours of cruising. –That is a long time spent at sea if you only have one week! It is also costly in fuel.

So unless you are doing an extended charter, you are chartering a super fast speed boat, or you are happy to spend most of your time at sea, we do not recommend it. Instead, focus on one area and save the other for when you return. –Many people do!

What Weather Conditions Can I Expect During the Croatian Summer?

The weather along the Dalmatian coast and its islands is typically Mediterranean, with warm, sunny days and mild evenings. Mornings often start with calm conditions, gradually picking up as sea breezes develop in the afternoon, providing ideal sailing winds.

Stronger winds, like the “Bora” or “Jugo,” can occasionally occur, bringing gustier conditions. Generally, the breeze dies down in the evening, leading to calm and peaceful nights perfect for anchoring. Compared to Greece, we see very few issues with the weather causing major changes to itineraries in Croatia.

Can I Secure a Spot on the Dock at Hvar in the Middle of High Season?

The short answer is No. Getting a spot on the tiny dock of Hvar when it is most crowded with boats is quite unlikely. But it is not impossible. However, it is not early booking or a fat stack of cash that makes it; it is an experienced Captain with good connections, and even then, you can only cross your fingers.

Why is it so hard? Because these public ports do not accept reservations, not even if you inquire 2 years in advance. If you have someone tell you otherwise, you might be disappointed. Besides, weather conditions can sometimes make docking less than ideal anyway.

But you also have the option to start in either Trogir (The Little Venice of Dalmatia), located right next to the Split Airport, or Split and return to Split (see our 7-Day Trogir-Split Yacht Charter Itinerary). This might be more easily organized with the yacht if they have their base there, and you can fly back out of Split International Airports, which has better connections than Dubrovnik.

The Central Croatian Yacht Charter Itinerary starts and ends in the old town of Sibenik, the gateway to the Kornati Islands. Although Sibenik is quite small, it has a whole three forts: The 15th-century stone Cathedral of St. James, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the top, St. Michael’s Fortress offers stunning views over the Adriatic. And the UNESCO-listed St. Nicholas Fortress, a triangular sea fort at the bay’s entrance.

The Kornati Islands are a stunning archipelago of around 140 islands, islets, and reefs known for their rugged landscapes, clear waters, and secluded coves. Part of the Kornati National Park, they offer great island hopping, snorkeling, and exploring untouched nature. For those who are looking for a more wild charter away from the worst of the crowds, Kornati is the best place.

Most Captains will agree that it is well worth returning to Sibenik a day early to make the trip up the Krka River to Skradin and the famous Krka Waterfalls. Note that smaller motor yachts or power catamarans might be able to clear the bridge and make it all the way to Skradin. Bigger or masted yachts will have to anchor up in Sibenik and go by tender. –A beautiful 15-20 minute river adventure on flat water!

*There is much to see between Sibenik and the Kornati National Park and Telascica Nature Park, and an extra day makes a big difference. So, if you have the time, consider this 8-Day Sibenik Yacht Charter Itinerary.

The Northern Croatian Yacht Charter Itinerary starts and ends in Pula. Most of the yachts in the north are based here in the Pula ACI Marina. Pula is a fantastic historical town, home to one of the world’s best-preserved Amphi Theaters. During the summer, numerous high-profile concerts take place here, including Dua Lipa and Lenny Kravitz earlier this year.

Leaving Pula, you can head straight down to Cres Island (Lubenice Beach is especially nice), followed by Rab Island, nicknamed ‘The Sienna of Croatia’ due to its many church towers, and Krk Island (not to be confused with Krka National Park down near Sibenik).

Finish your yacht charter with a visit to the stunning Brijuni National Park. This tiny archipelago, once the party grounds of the Ancient Romans, is now all about laid-back beach bars and secluded swimming spots. The island also has botanical gardens and a zoo, which are great attractions for kids.

“Croatia is an incredible sailing destination thanks to its close-knit islands, fantastic weather, and abundance of protected anchorages. The yachting sector has grown massively, with the addition of numerous government-operated ACI Marinas, meaning you’re never more than 30 minutes from a marina—making provisioning a breeze!

But what truly sets Croatia apart is its stunning nature, rich history, and countless UNESCO World Heritage sites along the Dalmatian Coast. Plus, the local OPGs, or family-run farms, provide amazing fresh produce and products that add to the authentic experience.”
